Many people marry and find out that they have made a mistake. They go on and make one more critical mistake by filing for divorce without a divorce plan.

For many unhappy couples divorce is the solution to all their problems. But, the reality is very different. Divorce is the biggest problem that they will face. There are many issues that need to be settled during the divorce process. Some of these are financial. However, most are emotional. During, this distressful time many legal formalities further burden the divorce process. Formalities, especially legal formalities are not pleasant. Anyone, who plans to divorce, must make a divorce plan, for the divorce process, to avoid making any critical mistakes.

  5. Attaching emotional sentiment to financial assets
  6. Failing to account for tax, inflation and the new living costs. Separation is costly.

Working the Divorce Plan

No divorce is perfect. All divorces have problems. The divorce process will be easier if the divorce plan includes the three components of a successful divorce. Firstly, plan out exactly where you will live. Secondly, plan out how you will earn and manage your future expenses or a post divorce financial plan. Thirdly, if you have children or pets and if they will be living with you, plan out how you will accommodate them.

Putting the Divorce Plan into Action

Once you have the divorce plan ready you can start off by separating, unless you are already separated. Separation will make you less dependent on the other spouse. Divorce attorneys are simply tools to reach a divorce settlement and not counselors. So treat them as such and only hire them for that service, if required.
