Separation – Is Divorce the Only way out of an Unhappy Marriage?

No marriage is ever trouble free. All individuals have needs and when both spouses fail to reach a compromise over certain issues, divorce seems to be the likely outcome. There are alternatives to divorce.

The Choice

Marriage like all contracts can be dissolved. Human emotions however, aren’t contractual. Neither, are they always logical. These emotions do run high when there is a crisis in married life. Some people develop an understanding before marriage and work out a deal. Thus, they are able to combat issues better and resolve problems when they occur. Most couples fail to communicate, and end up filing for divorce. This happens in situations where neither spouse is prepared to make the sacrifice and conclude with a compromise. Divorce is not the only choice. They are left with three choices: Live with it, divorce away the genie or separation. Things I should know before I take a divorce.

Making the Decision

The decision you make in a troubled marriage is never simple. It is the hardest decision you make in your life. A relationship can be divorced away but, never the emotions. To make things worse, there are other changes that take place after marriage which, divorcees find out about after the divorce. Even if divorce seems practical at the time of reading, mark my words, there are a number of other considerations, financial and otherwise that need some careful thinking. The best option is nominally separation.

Separation

There are many couples living in a transition between married life and getting divorced or simply finding more reasons to stay married. Separation depends on the true intensions of the couple. Some couples find it is simply a necessity, so they can live their own lives while they wait for the divorce settlement. Some couples view separation as a method of creating extra space to lessen the existing burden of the riddled marriage, while they figure out how to salvage their relationship. The Three Types of Separation

The Solution

Before, you start contemplating about your final decision; make sure you have all the facts right about your problems. Then truthfully consider all the time you have spent together and than ask yourself just one question. Is it all worth it? If it is worth it, than there is nothing, ever, that can’t be solved. But, if the marriage is unbearable, separation is the only soothing way to find out what can or can’t be worked out.
